ARTIST STATEMENT:
Art has always been a large part of my life. I have enjoyed all facets, including interior design. As a student I was continually encouraged by my teachers to design, create and enter art competitions. While growing up in Ohio I attended classes at the Dayton Art Institute.
As a young adult I became fascinated with seashells and started a business designing and creating shell decorator mirrors and gift boxes. I distributed my work in shops from Malibu to La Jolla. I love the excitement of the 'treasure hunt" so my husband and I vacationed often at Sanibel Island that is world renowned for having the largest variety of seashells of any beach in the world. We had read about Sanibel Island in an old National Geographic magazine.
I have taken numerous art classes over the years at the Palos Verdes Art Center, but the class that captured my imagination was Portia Spurney's "Wearable Art Class." I am now hooked on beads and bead design. The "treasure hunt" is on again for the perfect bead!
