Sally Matsumoto

ARTIST STATEMENT:
Sally Matsumoto was born and grew up in the South Bay. She graduated from Chouinard Art Institute, now known as Cal Arts, and also attended Otis Parson. She worked commercially for Bullocks and the Broadway department stores as a fashion illustrator and accessory artist and freelanced for Kline Kinsler buying services as a fashion illustrator and various other clients. Later she was on staff for the Daily Breeze and the News Pilot as a graphic designer and illustrator.
She paints in the watercolor medium and currently is studying painting with Ron Libbrecht and Ruby Wang. The Madrona Marsh gallery has shown her recent watercolors and she also has exhibited her paintings at San Pedro’s historic Cabrillo Beach Bathhouse.
Matsumoto enjoys painting with watercolor because it is spontaneous and fresh.
